    Responsibilities

    The Senior DBA will have responsibility for MySQL and Oracle database technologies. Position requires high level expertise, thought leadership, driving results and partnering across all levels within the organization and with vendors external to ACT.

    Typical work-related activities include:

    • Install, patch, upgrade, configure, tune and maintain MySQL and Oracle databases
    • Troubleshoot critical performance bottlenecks for MySQL and Oracle databases
    • Review and assess the impact of database design changes prior to their implementation
    • Collaborate with other IT teams and Vendors to resolve complex and multi-disciplinary issues
    • Review current processes and standards, and add update/enhance based on industry best practices
    • Work independently and represent database group in various projects
    • Ensure that databases are monitored, maintained, backed up, and available as appropriate.
    • Manage database security with an adherence to ACT’s security policy
    • Review stress testing results and provide recommendations to development teams
    • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
    • Automate management tasks, streamline processes, and perform standard administrative functions
    • Mentor, assist, encourage, and serve as a backup to other team members

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related area required; preferably in computer science
    • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • A minimum of 5 years of progressive IT experience, including a minimum of 3 years of experience in installation, upgrade, patching, and support of MySQL databases
    • 2 years of experience administering, patching, supporting Oracle databases 11g/12c
    • Experience with and strong proficiency in MySQL database management
    • Experience with MySQL and Oracle database performance tuning
    • Experience with large scale data migration from and to MySQL databases
    • Experience with backup and recovery techniques
    • Experience with AWS RDS preferred
    • Experience with Oracle ASM
    • Knowledge of Linux, Unix, and Microsoft operating systems

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
    • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL and Oracle
    • Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
    • Strong knowledge of ODBC/JDBC client/server communication
    • Automation experience with ‘shell’ and ‘SQL’ scripting
    • Analytical skills necessary to perform troubleshooting of errors and performance issues
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Results-oriented and able to work across the organization as an individual contributor
    • Ability to work in a rapidly transforming organization
    • Proficient knowledge of project management and organizational skills
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
    • Technically proficient in assigned IT discipline(s)
    • Ability to deliver consistent, high quality, cost effective service by handling routine, as well as some non-routine, systems issues
