    The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for developing ACT’s next generation applications. This position is primarily a full-stack developer with focus on back-end REST APIs implemented with AWS. Java experience required, but flexibility and proven ability to quickly learn whatever is needed to deliver high quality solutions is the most important. This includes development in Java, JavaScript and other programming languages, integrating with Bitbucket for source control, Jenkins for builds, and Docker for virtualization within AWS and utilizing various frameworks including the Serverless framework. This role will support the Agile process and ensure product quality, robustness, scalability and consistency.     Typical work-related activities include:

    • Independently design, implement, maintain, and enhance APIs and their features. This means full stack from HTTP interfaces to various data stores, with unit and integration tests.
    • Collaborate with DevOps engineers to design, implement, maintain and enhance the infrastructure in production and non-production environments.
    • Collaborate with frontend/UI developers to design, implement, maintain and enhance modern user interfaces
    • Collaborate with Software Engineers in Test to ensure product scalability, reliability, consistency, and performance, including leveraging static code analysis tools and support for production monitoring.
    • Support junior team members to proactively anticipate and resolve issues across scrum teams
    • Take responsibility for department success through mentoring, coaching and advising other team members
    • Actively participate and lead teams in design / architectural discussions, grooming user stories, sprint demos, and daily scrums to help establish a Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) approach. Recommend product, infrastructure, or design changes to ensure quality and performance standards.



    • Bachelor’s degree in a related area required, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Information Systems
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired



      • A minimum of 5 years of progressive IT experience that includes coding in Java
      • Experience developing REST APIs required
      • Expert level knowledge of Java required
    • Experience working in an Agile development environment preferred


      • Experience in architecting software solutions, and technical design in continuous integration environment preferred
      • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) preferred
      • Expertise in a static code analysis tools such as SonarQube, HPFortify, Crucible preferred
      • Expertise in production monitoring solutions such as NewRelic, Tivoli, App Dynamics, SCOM and synthetic transaction scripting preferred



    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to develop complex REST APIs using modern development languages and techniques required
    • Knowledge of other programming languages and openness to learning new programming languages required
    • Knowledge of unit and integration test frameworks required
    • Demonstrated ability to integrate code into automated deployment pipelines required
    • Strong knowledge of version control such as Git required
    • Demonstrated relational and no-SQL database skills (MongoDB, DynamoDB) required
    • Demonstrated ability to use JSON and/or XML required
    • Ability to work as part of a scrum team, following SAFe agile practices required
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills required
    • Demonstrated ability to support, mentor, coach and advise other team members required.
    • Ability to develop innovative solutions to technical issues required
    • Results-oriented and able to work across the organization required
    • Should be comfortable working in a rapidly transforming organization required
    • Demonstrated success in new technology implementation preferred
    • Strong understand of performance testing frameworks such as Jmeter and Blazemeter preferred
