The position will independently perform or lead psychometric and statistical research and operational support for ACT products and services.


Typical work-related activities include:

  • Independently design and conduct psychometric and statistical analyses and serve as a subject matter expert for ACT products and services
  • Lead project teams, maintain quality and security control of all projects, and guide junior staff in completing assignments and acquiring skills
  • Design, conduct, and manage research projects and studies which integrates the most recent findings in psychometrics, statistics, assessment design, and educational data analytics to support innovation
  • Prepare and participate in the development of contract and grant proposals and independently provide consulting support to external clients
  • Maintain current knowledge and contribute to new knowledge in psychometrics and related statistical methods, including but not limited to, computerized adaptive testing, cognitive diagnostic modeling, IRT/MIRT, statistical modeling, assessment design, adaptive learning, and formative assessment
  • Collaborate with ACT staff in producing research through publications, presentations, and presence across relevant national and international research communities to increase the thought leadership of ACT




Doctorate degree in educational measurement, mathematical statistics, psychometrics or a closely related field required



  • For Senior Psychometrician -  Six years of experience in a testing, measurement, or research environment (experience in computerized adaptive testing or cognitive diagnostic modeling preferred)
  • For Principal Psychometrician -  Minimum of nine years of related post-doctorate experience required
  • Sustained successful independent planning, execution, and communication of research projects
  • Demonstrated professional achievement through presentations at professional conferences and publications in professional journals, or equivalent

  • Advanced knowledge of educational measurement, psychometrics, and statistical modeling (knowledge with Bayesian statistics preferred) 
  • Expertise in developing and leading research projects and effectively communicate technical issues to audience of different knowledge backgrounds
  • Developed skills and extensive experience in consulting
  • Proven leadership skills in project management and quality assurance
  • Ability to independently develop strategies to solve problems or consult on problems arising from testing programs or corporate management concerns
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid computer programming skills in R, SAS, Python, or Java and IRT software
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain respectful and professional relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Ability to adapt to a fast changing environment
